The new investment privatization project (PPI) will include five state-owned fishing ports located in Natal, Rio Grande Do Norte, Aracaju, Selcipe, Vitoria, Espirito santo, and Santos and Cananeia in Sao Paulo, the Brazilian government announced on July 28.

Brazil's agriculture ministry will be in charge of bidding for the privatisation of the ports. The presidential secretary said the move was part of a shift in the management of fishing ports that began last May. Attracting private investment is key to modernizing ports and improving operations, and will provide the necessary conditions for the development of fisheries, the ministry said.

Brazil's fishing industry produced about 722,000 tons in 2019, according to government data. Brazil's public fishing ports process, store, commercialize and support shipping. Fishing ports involve infrastructure such as docks, Bridges, cold storage facilities, underwater protection and passageways.
