Pork: Record exports



According to ABPA data, Brazil exported a total of 753,300 tons of pork in 2019, up 16.2% year on year and breaking the record, according to Brazilian website G1 and UOL. In December 2019 alone, exports reached 76,000 tons, up 35 percent from a year earlier. For all of 2019, Brazilian pork exports totaled $1.597 billion, up 32% from 2018.



Pork purchases in Asia increased sharply last year because of the African swine fever. China is the biggest buyer of Brazilian pork, importing 248,800 tons in 2019, up 61 percent from a year earlier. Vietnam's imports also rose 82.6 per cent to 13, 500 tonnes.

Chicken: Chinese imports hit 10-year high



The ABPA data also showed that Brazil exported 4.212,000 tons of chicken in 2019, up 2.8% from the previous year. December 2019 was the best performance of the year, with exports reaching 391,919 tons, up 11.2 percent year on year. For the whole of 2019, Brazilian chicken exports amounted to $6.994 billion, up 6.4% year on year.



China was the largest importer of Brazilian chicken in 2019, with annual imports reaching 585,300 tons, up 34 percent from a year earlier. In December alone, China's imports reached 72,000 tonnes, up 94 per cent year on year.
